    Kristen’s spirits were low after a hot summer day. The humidity had created a frizzy halo of ringlets around her delicate face. Any attempt to control her hair was a wasted effort. She sighed and waited for something interesting to happen.

   She scanned the subway car and her gaze stopped on an attractive boy. He grinned when their eyes met. Kristen held her breath as the boy stood up and walked towards her.

   He extended his hand and said, “Hi. My name is Eddie.” Kristen was at a loss for words because she and Eddie shared the same ‘Afro’ of blond curls.
