Think Tank Recap: Chelsea Art District
The first Dd Think Tank kicked off this past Saturday in the Chelsea Art District.
David Behringer from The Two Percent started us off with an animated introduction to the neighborhood and some of the galleries we would see. He selected specific galleries, ones he considered to be the best in the area, and printed off maps and press releases for us. Immediately, I liked David – he’s not a dancer, but his zeal for the visual arts is contagious and any Dd contributor or follower can relate to that type of passion.
Here are some TT highlights …
- The gang gathers in Chelsea, as David gives us the lowdown
- Andreas Gursky @ Gagosian
- More interesting art
- A Mark Di Suvero sculpture at the Paula Cooper Gallery

After our jaunt around the neighborhood, we gathered at the Drunken Horse, where both the wine and the conversation flowed!
We chatted about what we saw and how it can inform our own art. Once again, the conversation shifted towards the heated topic of dance criticism, but, eventually, we redirected it to the bigger picture … the future of Dd and the role it can have in the dance community.
As I gazed around the table, looking at my fellow dancers, my heart swelled a bit. I know it sounds cheesy, but I felt proud to be in the company of such a remarkable group of talented individuals. Each attendee had a strong clear voice and a passion for all things artistic and thought-provoking.
As Candice said over drinks, “this thing [Dd] has legs.” I agree completely. Where exactly these “legs” will take us … it’s hard to say, but it’s gonna be one heck of a journey!
Thus concludes our first TT of Dd. Stay tuned for the next one, coming up in January!

It was awesome and I highly recommend going on a “curated” tour of galleries, because every single place we went fit into a perfect journey. It started with a bang, there were some thought-provoking pieces in the middle, and it ended with pure whimsical fun. David gives tours to groups of three or less and discounts to artists. He has also made a great video of the current Guggenheim exhibit, Maurizio Cattelan, which I am hoping to see very soon!

This makes me smile
I am so excited for a number of reasons these days! Most of all, I am excited to be done with my crazy semester so that Dd can hog the spotlight of my excitement. Thanks for writing this up and I can’t wait for the next Think Tank!
