CoLab in Dance Magazine

Please check out this article from Dance Magazine about CoLab, a performance group I am a part of at Barnard College/Columbia University (written by Columbia Alum, Siobhan Burke)!

Here is a video of the piece I made for CoLab last Spring. There was a camera set up in the middle of the stage, and the video shown here was projected as a live feed.

The intention of the piece was to get as close to the line between the audience and the work without crossing it (i.e. no physical contact or direct audience participation). I aimed to push the audiences’ expectations and continually surprise or maybe even disappoint them. For instance, the dancers started in the seats and that’s where they stayed, rather than eventually getting up and dancing on stage. There was also an “audience member” that started to sing along with the Opera track towards the end.

I am planning to continue with this idea and perhaps take it a step further this semester. Stay tuned :)
